Hi,
I'm looking for locations of beached/stranded/abandoned boats. I know for example, there's a very famous one in Bunbeg Co Donegal, and I have been told there's one in Wexford somewhere. I know there used to be one in Howth - I took pictures of it during exceptionally low tides about 7 years ago. I haven't seen it lately though. I know there used to be one down in Kerry as well.
I want to try and photograph them but I don't know where enough of them are. I'm interested in everything, rotting rowboats, trawlers abandoned in dead or dying fishing ports and I am interested in every part of the country. I'm hoping that people who spend a lot of time by the sea might know a few that I can go and look at.
Thanks a million.

There is a shipwreck featured on the opening credits of Father Ted TV series. This is on Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. It was called The Plassey.
Ferries run from Doolin.

| There is one around Slea Head in Dingle. Its a steel hull boat on the cliff just under the road. Fairly sure its still in one piece. Think it was/is called 'an Ranga'. |

Thanks a million guys, that's a very fast response. I think the Ranga is the one I was thinking off for Kerry - goes off and checks flickr - yes it is.
I am going to plot these on a google map if you don't mind. |

| Treasa, if you get time head down to Bantry bay and Castletownbere, there are 4 good wrecks that I can think of just off the top of my head. There is a spanish trawler on a small island with a ligthouse called Roncarrigicmor, then on the way into Castletownbere (CTB) on left before the golf course there is another old wooden trawler in a small harbour which rotten down to its ribs. Then across the bay on the Bere Island side there is a half submerged industrial trawler called the Bardinea Reefer which caught fire in the late 70's, plenty of it exposed on a low tide. Carry on to the far side of CTB, out to Dunboy Castle and there is another rotten trawler in the small harbour. Worth the trip. |

| One on the beach in Glenbeigh last time I was down there. Just the remains of a timber hull and was just exposed. Not sure how often it appears as I hadn't seen it before. There is one on tramore beach too. I rememeber years ago the sand was eroided off it and it appeared for a couple of weeks and I haven't seen it since. One just past gowlan in baradon bay too. Can be seen at low tide but only just. Think 100 people died in that one back in 1800's, there is a memorial there too it |
